Carta CEO Brian Semkiw is speaking on how to rapidly deliver mobile payments in a dynamic and complex environment while building a long term roadmap with a future-proof strategy. He will share lessons learned from leading market roll-outs, and insight on what’s coming next.
Leading Carta’s Growth and Fostering the Vision
Mr. Semkiw is responsible for the strategic vision of the company, including positioning of Carta’s End to End technology and solutions, global market strategy and business development.
With a long track record of success, Mr. Semkiw’s leadership is key to Carta’s growth. Before taking the helm at Carta Worldwide, Brian co-founded Rand Engineering and Rand Worldwide. He grew the latter from a local start-up to a global enterprise of over 1500 employees operating in over 50 countries. Rand Worldwide realized revenues of nearly $500 million after Brian steered the company to an initial public offering in 1993 and then to its privatization in 2007. For several years, Profit Magazine recognized Rand as one of Canada’s fastest growth companies and Brian was awarded The Entrepreneur of the Year in 1996.
Mr. Semkiw’s formal education includes a BASc from the University of Toronto, where he sat on the Dean’s Advisory Board. Brian has also served on the board of Leitch Technologies, a division of Harris Communications and currently sits on the board for Engineering.com.
Carta’s Lead Technology Architect
The man responsible for advancing Carta’s innovative technologies is Chief Technology Officer, Rui Mendes. Mr. Mendes brings a wealth of international experience in system and software development and corporate leadership. He has led projects around the globe from Mozambique, to South Africa, Portugal, to Germany, and North America.
As CEO of NOVAData, a customer relationship management company, Rui led the successful design and implementation of online presence systems for companies such as Microsoft and Bank One. During his time with Siemens AG, Rui deployed geographical information systems for large European telecom companies and government agencies. Armed with his vast knowledge and experience, Mr. Mendes’ innovative technologies set Carta apart from the rest.
Driving Revenue and Growth
Elizabeth (Buffy) Duke joins Carta as a cultivated sales and marketing executive bringing more than 25 years of experience in both corporate and consulting environments covering strategic sales management, product management and business development.
Duke is a highly respected expert in mobile payments and mobile wallets with direct experience in distinguished projects in Singapore, New Zealand, Australia, Canada, US and Latin America.
Duke has held senior level positions at MasterCard, C-SAM and Network for Electronic Transfers Singapore (NETS). She has developed expertise in business development, strategic planning and project delivery, e-commerce issues and solutions, mobile and NFC payments, cross-border transactions, card program development and business acquisition.
Prior to joining Carta, Duke was Vice President at MasterCard’s Mobile Transaction Solutions (MTS) group – where she was responsible for a team of Business Development Managers and Pre-Sales technicians focused on driving new business opportunities while growing existing relationships for MTS, covering USA, Canada and Latin America.
